Mom and Dad's Hawaiian Lap Quilts

Several years ago my parents served an LDS mission in Hawaii.  While they were there my Mom bought TONS of Hawaiian print fat quarters!  When she saw the fabric she just couldn't resist buying it because it was all so beautiful, even though she had no idea what to do with it once she got home because she doesn't sew any more!  So all of this incredible fabric just sat in a box for several years.  For Christmas 2010, I contacted all of my siblings and we decided to surprise my parents and make each of them a lap quilt out of their fabric!  They already had several large quilts for their bed that they got while they were in Hawaii, so I thought a lap quilt for each of them would be nice to cuddle up with on a cold winter's night and bring back some great memories of their mission!  My sister, Kristi, and her family currently live in South Korea because her husband, Chris, serves as a chaplain in the Army.  They came to America for a visit in January 2011, so we didn't give my parents their Christmas presents until everyone could be there.  They were soooo surprised!  I loved it!

The following pictures are from the night we gave the quilts to my parents.  We were at Sizzler where we met to have dinner and our "belated" Christmas party!  Fun memories!
